| Joseph's Interprets Dreams |
Then
the butler and the baker who were confined in
prison, with Joseph, had dreams. Both of them had a dream
the same night and
each man's dream with its own interpretation.
When
Joseph saw them in the morning and looked at them he saw how sad
they were. So Joseph asked the butler and the baker why
they were so sad. They told Joseph that they each had a
dream, and there is no one to
interpreter
it." So Joseph told them that interpretations belong to God. Then
Joseph asked them what their dreams were.
Then
the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and told him that in his
dream a vine was before him, and
in the vine were three branches. It was as though it budded, its
blossoms shot forth, and its clusters brought
forth ripe grapes.
Then
Pharaoh's cup was in his hand and he took the grapes and pressed them
into Pharaoh's cup, and placed the cup in Pharaoh's hand.
Joseph Interprets the Dreams

The Butler's dream
Joseph told him what the dream meant. The three
branches represented three days and
within three days the Pharaoh would restore him to his place as the
Pharaoh's butler, and put Pharaoh's cup in his hand as he did
before.
But Joseph asked him to
remember him when he got out and tell the Pharaoh about him, and
get him out of this house. For Joseph had been taken away from
the land of the Hebrews, and had done nothing wrong that
they should put him into the dungeon for.
When
the chief baker saw that Joseph could make a good interpretation of the
butlers dream, he asked
Joseph, if he could tell him what his dream meant.
In his dream there were three
white baskets on his head. In the top basket were
all kinds of baked goods for the Pharaoh, and the birds were eating
them out of the
basket on his head.

The Baker's dream
So Joseph told him what his dream meant. It meant that the three baskets represented three days. Within three days Pharaoh would lift off his head and hang him on a tree. The birds would eat his flesh.
Now
it happened that on the third day there was a feast for all the
Pharaoh's servants because it was the Pharaoh's birthday. The
Pharaoh lifted up the head of the
chief butler and the chief baker among his servants. Then he
restored the chief butler as his
butler again, and placed the cup in Pharaoh's hand. But as
Joseph had interreted, the chief baker was
hanged. But the chief
butler forgot about Joseph.
