Rebekah gives birth to twin boys,
Esau and Jacob.

Genesis 25:19-26

Abraham had a son named Isaac.  Isaac was forty years old when he married Rebekah, the sister of Laban the Syrian.  Isaac had prayed to the LORD that his wife would have a child, because she was not able to have one.  The LORD heard his prayers and Rebekah his wife was with child inside her.
But the children struggled within her.  Rebekah didn't know what was going on, so she asked the LORD.   The LORD told her that two nations were inside her and two different peoples would be separated from her body.  One would be stronger than the other and the older child would serve the youngest child.  When she finally gave birth, she had twin boys.  The first one born came out red and hairy all over, so she called him Esau.  The other boy was holding unto esau's heel when he was born, so she called him Jacob.  Isaac was already 60 years old when Rebekah had the twins.

.

The boys grew.   Esau became a hunter, and Jacob lived in tents.  Isaac loved Esau more because Isaac liked to eat the game that Esau hunted.  Rebekah loved Jacob and was her favorite son.

       Jacob cooked a stew

One day while Esau had been hunting, Jacob was cooking a stew.  Esau came in from hunting in the field and was very tired and hungry.

Esau was hungry and sold his
birthright to Jacob for some stew.

Esau was so hungry that he  asked  Jacob, to give him some red stew.   Therefore his name was called Edom.  Jacob asked for Esau to sell him his birthright.  Esau was so hungry that he didn't care about his birthright. So, Esau sold his birthright to Jacob.  Jacob made him swear that he would give it to him.  So Jacob gave Esau some bread and stew with beans.  After Esau ate, he went his way.  So Esau despised his own birthright.

Isaac asks Esau to hunt for some good meat
and bring it to him so that he could bless him.

Isaac  eyes were were getting old and so dim that he could not see.   He called Esau his older son and told him that he was getting old and didn't know when he would die.  He wanted Esau to take his bow, go out and hunt for his favorite meat, and then cook it for him.   He then wanted him to bring it to him so that he could eat it and could also bless Esau before he died.

Rebekah heard Isaac speaking to Esau.  Then Esau left to hunt game and bring it back to his father.
Meanwhile, Rebekah spoke to Jacob and told him what she heard Isaac tell Esau.  She then wanted Jacob to go to the flock and get two baby goats.  She said that she would make some food for his  father, Isaac, that he loves.  Then she wanted Jacob to take the food to his father so that he could bless Jacob before his death.  The blessing was suppose to go to Esau since he was the oldest child, but Esau had sold his birthright to Jacob.
Jacob told his mother that he wasn't hairy like Esau and that he would be deceiving (lying to) his father.  But Rebekah told Jacob that she would take the blame.  So Jacob did as his mother told him to do.  He brought the goats to her and she made some food for Isaac.  then Rebekah took some clothes that were Esau's and put them on Jacob.  She also put the skins of the goats on Jacobs hands and part of his neck.  Then she gave Jacob the food and bread.

Jacob tricks his father Isaac who doesn't see well.
He believes he is Esau and gives him his  blessings instead.

Jacob went to his father.  Isaac asked him who he was.  Jacob pretended to be Esau and told him he had brought the food that he could bless him.  Isaac questioned how he was able to find food so quickly, but Jacob told him the the LORD brought it to him.  Isaac wanted Jacob to come closer to him so that he could feel him.  Isaac thought it was Jacob's voice but when he felt him, thought it was Esau.  So Isaac blessed Jacob and kissed him and smelled the clothing which smelled like the field.
Isaac now had the blessing that had been Esau's.  His father told him that people would serve him and nations would bow down to him and he would be the master over his brothers. He also told him that anyone who cursed him would be cursed and those that bless him would be blessed.
Later, Esau came back with his game.  But he found out what Jacob had done when he went into his father to recieve his blessing.  Esau was not happy with Jacob.

Birthright --------  Something that someone is entitled to at birth, which the oldest child usually inherits.
Game-------------- An animal hunted for sport or food.

CONCLUSION:  Jacob and Esau were twin brothers.  Esau was born first and was suppose to inherit the birthright from his father.  Their mother, Rebekah, knew from birth that there would be a struggle between them.  Esau became a hunter and Jacob lived in tents.  Their father, Isaac, liked the meat that Esau would hunt.  But Esau didn't think much of  his birthright.  One day when Esau was hungry, Jacob was making a stew and got Esau to sell his birthright for a bowl of stew.  Later, Rebekah heard that Isaac was going to bless Esau and told Jacob to pretend to be Esau.  So, Jacob dressed as Esau and went to his father and pretended to be Esau and recieved his father's blessings.  When Esau came back and found out what Jacob had done, he was very upset with Jacob.  Esau begged his father to bless him also.
