While Caesar Augustus was ruling, he issued a law that a census
should be taken of the entire Roman world.
And
everyone went to his own town to register.
Mary and Joseph go to Bethlehem
for the census.
So Joseph also left the town of Nazareth in Galilee.
He went to Bethlehem in Judea, the town of David, because he
belonged to the house
and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who had
been promised to marry him, and was expecting a child.
When they arrived in Bethlehem
they
found no place in the Inn to stay.
So they had to stay in a stable.
Mary gives birth to Jesus
While they were there, the time arrived
for the baby to
be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in
cloths and placed him in a manger.
And there were shepherds living
out in
the fields
nearby, keeping watch over
their flocks at night.
An angel of the Lord
appeared to them,
and the glory
of the Lord shone around
them, and they were
terrified.
The angel spoke to the shepherds
The angel told them not
to be afraid. The angel told them they were bringing
good news of great joy to them and all people. The angel said,
"Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he
is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will
find a baby wrapped in
cloths and lying in a manger."
The angels praised God.
Suddenly very many of the heavenly host appeared
with
the angel, praising God and saying,
"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his
favor rests." Then the angels left them and went back to
heaven. The
shepherds decided to go to Bethlehm to see what the Lord had told them
about.
They found Mary, Joseph and baby
Jesus in a stable in Bethlehem.
They hurried to Bethlehem and found Mary, Joseph,
and the baby lying in a manger. After they saw him, they spread
the word about what had just happened about baby Jesus. Everyone
who heard about it were amazed at what the shepherds told
them.
Mary treasured up all these things and thought them
in
her heart. The shepherds went back to their fields, glorifying
and praising God for all
that had happened.
On the eighth day, when it was time to circumcise
the baby, he was
named *Jesus, the name the angel had
given him before he had been
conceived.
When the time of their purification according to the
Law of
Moses had been completed, Joseph and Mary took baby Jesus to Jerusalem
to
present him to the Lord when it was time for purification
according to the Law of Moses.
(as it is written in the Law of the Lord, "Every firstborn
male is to be consecrated to the Lord",
and to offer a
sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the Lord: "a pair
of doves or two young pigeons."
*Jesus means saviour
Angel---------------------
A messenger from God.
Census-------------------
A count of the people living in an area.
Manger------------------
A narrow container for feeding or watering animals.
Conclusion: The angel
Gabriel had told Mary that she would give birth to a son and to name
him Jesus. Mary and Joseph were not yet married. Joseph
took Mary to Bethlehem for the census. While in Bethlehem, Mary
gave birth to a son who was a special child because Mary was his mother
but God was his father. Jesus Christ was God's only
son. God had a plan to save His people from their sins thru
Jesus
so that His people could have eternal life. Jesus was to be their
saviour and He is also our saviour. He would save us from the
penalty of sin which is a spiritual death (or separation from God
forever).
NOTE: THERE IS NO MENTION IN THE BIBLE AS TO WHEN JESUS WAS BORN.
