Gensesis 12:1-10

The Lord speaks to Abram
and tells him to leave his home.
The
LORD spoke to Abram and told him to leave his country, his people and
his
father's household and go to a land that the LORD would show him.
The Lord
promised to make a great nation from him and bless him. He also
told him that He would make his name great and that all the nations
would be blessed through him. The Lord would bless those
who blessed him, and
whoever cursed him the Lord would curse. The Lord promised
him that
all peoples on the earth would
be blessed through Abram.
Abram left with his wife
Sarai, Lot and their ossessions.
So
Abram obeyed God and left. He took Lot with him. Abram was
seventy-five years old when he left Haran.
He took his wife
Sarai, his nephew Lot, and all the possessions they had accumulated
while they lived in Haran. They set out for the land of
Canaan. Abram
traveled through the land as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh
at Shechem. The Canaanites lived there at the time.
The LORD
appeared to Abram and said,
"To your offspring I
will give this land."
So
he built an altar there to the LORD, who
had appeared to him.
Abram went to Egypt because of the
famine.
Then Abram set out and
continued toward the Negev. Now
there was a famine in the land so Abram went down to Egypt to live
there for a while because the famine was severe.
CONCLUSSION:
God was pleased with Abram's faithfulness. God made promises to Abram
that he would bless him and make him into a great nation. Abram
must of wondered how God could make a great nation of his descendants
since he had no children at that time. Still, Abram trusted God
and did what he said and left his country to go to another land.
Later God would provide an heir for Abram and his faith would
again be
challenged. Abram acted on the faith in the promises of
God. We can also trust God to give what He promises.
